Appliance repair · Chicago, IL

Diagnose first.
Quote second. No guessing.

True Fix Chicago repairs household and commercial appliances across 70 Chicago neighborhoods and 147 ZIP codes. Nobody prices your repair before they have seen the machine, and the figure you approve is the figure you pay.

What True Fix Chicago does

We repair household and commercial appliances across Chicago — refrigeration, laundry, dishwashers, cooking equipment, ice production and wine storage — on mass-market platforms and on the built-in and professional equipment that fills the city's rehabbed kitchens.

The whole business runs on one decision made in the right order. A symptom tells you what the appliance is doing; it does not tell you which component failed. So the technician diagnoses on site, names the specific fault, and gives you one total price covering parts and labor. You decide before anything is opened. There is no second conversation once the back panel is off.

That discipline exists because appliance repair has a bad reputation for exactly the opposite, and because the alternative — swap the obvious part, close the ticket, move on — means seeing the same kitchen again in five weeks.

We also turn work away. Where a repair approaches the value of replacing the machine and it is past two-thirds of its expected life, you will hear that. The exception is built-in and integrated equipment, where replacement means cabinetry work and the arithmetic runs the other way.

Four rules we do not bend

Written down because they cost us a job now and then, and we keep them anyway.

1

Diagnose Before Quoting

No estimate over the phone from a script. Your technician tracks down the real fault at the appliance and prices that repair, nothing more. A symptom does not identify a fault — 'not cooling' covers everything from a failed fan to a dead sealed system, and those are not the same conversation.

2

One Number, Agreed First

Parts and labor in a single figure you approve before anything is dismantled. It does not move once the machine is apart, and no separate labor charge appears at the end.

3

We Say When Not To Fix

If the machine is not worth the repair, the technician is expected to say so out loud and leave the sale on the table. Nobody here earns a commission on parts.

4

Leave The Place As We Found It

Floor protection and appliance sliders come out by default. Water is shut off and lines drained before a dishwasher or plumbed refrigerator is pulled, and gas is isolated at the shut-off before disconnection and leak-tested at the joint afterwards.

Why a Chicago repair is its own problem

Four things about this city change how a call runs before anyone opens a panel.

The building is half the job

A large share of Chicago addresses are managed buildings, and in a managed building the appointment is really two appointments. Management wants a certificate of insurance on file, the freight elevator has to be reserved inside its permitted hours, and the loading dock may have a window of its own. We handle that side when the call is booked rather than leaving a technician to argue with door staff.

The appliance is newer than everything behind it

Most of the city was built in masonry between 1890 and 1940. Kitchens have been refitted once or twice; the drains, gas runs, vents and circuits behind them frequently have not. We diagnose the installation alongside the machine as standard, because in this housing stock the installation is as likely to be at fault.

Shared risers produce faults that are not appliance faults

In a two-flat, a converted three-flat or a forty-unit stack, a slow fill, a slow drain or hot water running out mid-cycle can just as easily be the building. Establishing which takes about a minute and costs nothing, and it stops you paying for an inlet valve that cannot fix a pressure problem.

Winter and the unconditioned spaces

Basements, garages and enclosed back porches hold a great deal of the city's second refrigeration, and most of it was never rated for the ambient range those rooms reach. In a hard freeze a single-compressor unit stops calling for cooling entirely and the freezer thaws while reporting no fault at all. We would rather tell you that than sell you a part.

Who turns up

A 4-person shop. Every call is worked by someone here — there is no dispatch network behind this number.

What we can tell you for certain

Only confirmed credentials appear here. Anything the business has not verified is left off the page rather than implied.
